The best explanation I've seen is that it was multiple things: some genuine sightings of people doing parkour-type stuff (which would seem impossible to Victorians), some hoaxes (deliberate or...
My mum's been experiencing some genuinely unsettling stuff in her cottage about 6 miles outside Bodmin, and she's getting quite distressed about it. Started about 8 weeks ago.
That's not really debunking it. That's saying we have no clue. Fair point. And you're right that the consistency is interesting.
Surely the investigative approach should be completely different? Absolutely. You'd investigate a possible animal population with ecological surveys, population modelling, habitat assessment.
I lived in a basement flat in Islington (very similar to yours) and experienced almost exactly this.
That said, sleep paralysis doesn't usually wake you in the way you're describing. You're normally aware you can't move.

I heard what sounded like someone knocking on the radiator pipes. Three distinct knocks, then silence. That's almost certainly water hammer or air in the pipes. Real, unsettling, but mechanical.

Finally. I've been lurking on here because the true believers drown out anyone who asks basic questions.

Not to be that person, but the video quality makes it really hard to say definitively. Could be a lens flare, could be genuine. Have you got the raw dashcam file?
You're not missing anything. Rendlesham is interesting BECAUSE it's ambiguous. Servicemen reported something real - that much is clear. But what it was?
Holloway Road is old London. Lots of old buildings with quirky plumbing and pipes. Water hammer in the pipes can sound like knocking, and old plumbing can cause taps to open if there's a valve...
Spring-heeled Jack is interesting as a social history thing - what a society fears, what myths it creates, how those myths spread. But as a paranormal thing?

Been thinking about this for a while. Most cryptid sightings - Nessie, Bigfoot, sea serpents, big cats - could plausibly be explained by known animals in unusual circumstances or lighting...
You've just described the entire problem with EVP research. There's no methodology that removes the subjective element because you're listening to the playback after the fact, already primed to...

There's definitely something big moving around the Pennines. I've heard stories from farmers about livestock going missing - proper kills, not just predation.

Right, I'm genuinely spooked and my flatmate thinks I'm losing it. For the past week, objects have been moving about in our kitchen.
The real question isn't 'did aliens land?' It's 'why did the military respond with such obvious obfuscation?' That's what should worry us.
Breach Light UAV is my guess. They've got a stupid brightness when they catch the sun at certain angles, and they move exactly like that.
