Thought I'd post this given the winter nights are drawing in and more folks are out hiking around dusk.
This is going to sound absolutely mad, but my late father told this story consistently from the 1960s until his death in 2015, and I've never had a good forum to discuss it properly.
It's institutional laziness mixed with liability concerns. Paranormal coverage = angry viewers complaining.

The thing about the Highlands is how inaccessible vast sections are. You could have a breeding population of large primates in the remote interior and we might never find clear evidence because...

The red torch thing is genuinely good advice. Used that method for years during night investigations. One tip: get a decent quality red filter, not the cheap plastic film.
Mate, Leeds is absolutely rife with paranormal activity. You should look into the history of your specific street. Leeds has loads of old plague pits and medieval burial grounds.

Right, so everyone's always going on about thermal cameras and night vision goggles costing hundreds of quid.
Has anyone done actual paranormal investigation on the Underground? There's a lot of historical death and violence down there (Victorian accidents, wartime bombing, all sorts).

Tell her to keep a detailed log. Date, time, what happened, who was present, weather, anything unusual. Even if it seems irrelevant.

The binoculars tip is solid. Also: get a red torch (preserves night vision), a notebook, and practice identifying planes. Commercial aircraft have specific light patterns.

jerky movements, sudden stops, changes of direction that would be impossible for normal planes Here's the thing though: if we're talking about a tiny object far away, camera jitter and compression...

I've been twice since it opened. First visit: genuinely unnerved, felt watched in the west wing. Second visit: brilliant broad daylight, chatted with curators, completely ordinary.
