Welcome! You're in the right place. The Skywatching forum's got some brilliant people doing actual structured observation - proper data collection, correlation with known aircraft, ADS-B...
Cairngorms gets quite a lot of RAF traffic actually. Typhoons regularly do training runs through that area and they can look very odd when you're underneath them and they're at certain angles.

I've got a TriField TF2 (cost me £150 about five years ago) and honestly the main difference versus the cheaper models is consistency and the ability to measure different types of fields...
Thermal alone won't help you much without correlating data. You need concurrent audio recording and GPS logging at minimum. Have you set up any of that infrastructure yet?

Fair push-back on thermal but disagree on the motion sensors. Too many false positives from wind, animals, people in adjacent rooms.

I'm keen but a bit worried about trespassing. Is the land actually accessible now or are we doing this properly with the landowner's permission?

A pen on the kitchen counter slid about a foot across the surface with no one touching it. Did you see this yourself or only hear about it? This matters.
Get a medium or investigator in if you want, but honestly? First step is talking to your GP. What you're describing - the family tension, everyone on edge, stress cascading through the house - is...

Right lads, I'm organising a proper investigation at Borley Rectory on the 21st December. We've hired thermal imaging equipment and I've got a mate who's an actual electrician (so we won't...
What actually works? Patience. Silence. Good observational skills. I've solved more "hauntings" by sitting quietly in a room for two hours and actually noticing the physical world - pipes...

wildly different readings, which could mean something or could just mean some rooms have more electronicsDefinitely the latter.
The family stress element is actually significant - and I don't mean that dismissively. Genuine poltergeist activity (and I think it's rare) seems to cluster around emotional disturbance,...

I've used it exactly twice That's the problem with thermal imaging for most people - proper investigation requires understanding thermal physics first.

Glasgow's got the airport, military presence up at Prestwick, loads of commercial flight paths. Before we get excited, have we checked the ADS-B data for that evening?

There's also the theory that certain people are sensitive to places and pick up impressions even in dreams.

Honestly, the most useful kit I've bought is a decent DSLR camera. Full-spectrum modified one set me back about £150 second-hand and it's picked up stuff my thermal stuff never will.

The TV shows are deliberate though. Bad equipment = more 'mysterious' results = better drama. Modern kit is too accurate.

Hi all - Tom here, 28, from somewhere in the English Midlands (not getting too specific online, you know?).
Before you do anything paranormal, rule out the obvious: subsidence, drafts, the house settling, loose shelving, animals (seriously, a rat or bird in the walls can cause chaos), and structural...

I've got a used Fluke Ti32 and honestly it's been brilliant. Cost me £900 last year. The image stabilisation is decent enough for handheld work.
