Hi all - Tom here, 28, from somewhere in the English Midlands (not getting too specific online, you know?). I've been following paranormal stuff casually for ages but I'm specifically interested in UAP monitoring and analysis. I've got a bit of tech background and I'm wondering if this is the right community for that.

I've got access to some decent observational equipment and a bit of patience, but I'm new to the investigative side of things. I've read some of the pinned threads in the Skywatching forum and it seems like there's actually serious methodology here, which is refreshing. Most of the YouTube stuff is just blokes pointing at the sky making wild claims.

Keen to learn properly how to approach this. Not expecting aliens tomorrow but genuinely curious about systematic observation and what patterns people have actually identified over time.

Welcome! You're in the right place. The Skywatching forum's got some brilliant people doing actual structured observation - proper data collection, correlation with known aircraft, ADS-B cross-checking, that sort of thing. Tech background will serve you well because honestly, most of what we do is pattern recognition in data.

Midlands is decent for this actually - not as much light pollution as the south, decent flight paths for aircraft data triangulation, and a few reported hotspots in the area. Couple of regulars here who monitor there too. You might find some collaboration once you get settled in.

The methodology side is the whole point of this community as far as I'm concerned. YouTube's a circus - constant hype, no data validation, conspiracy thinking presented as evidence. Here you'll actually see people saying "I can't explain this" rather than "THIS PROVES ALIENS" which is way more helpful. Start with the observational logs and you'll see how proper work gets done.
