Wasn't at Tahoe but I had something similar over Durham last Wednesday - three lights in a loose triangle formation, moving way too slowly for a plane then just stopped.
Not my area at all - I'm more of a ley lines and Mothman person - but big black cat sightings genuinely fascinate me because they follow such a predictable pattern.
@DefinitelyRevenant that's the actual problem with most of this stuff isn't it. Nobody's got a proper baseline because nobody was tracking before they started suspecting something.

The real test: Do a blind review. Record yourself saying random words, mix them into white noise at the same volume level as your EVP session, then try to identify them.
