I'm new to serious EVP recording and I know I'm going to get sceptics in here, but I genuinely think I've captured something unusual. I've been using a Zoom H5 recorder (decent quality, not fancy) and a cheap condenser mic in a supposedly quiet hallway of my flat (old Victorian building in Brixton).

I did a 15-minute session yesterday (8pm, quiet evening, nobody else home). I asked standard questions: 'Who are you?', 'Can you give me your name?', etc. Nothing remarkable at the time - just silence and ambient noise.

When I reviewed the audio later, there's a section (around 4:22 into the recording) where I ask 'What's your name?' and in the white noise response, I swear I can hear a voice saying something. It's faint, possibly two or three words, but it's there.

I'm uploading a clip. Can someone listen and tell me if I'm hearing patterns in noise (pareidolia) or if there's actually a voice in there?

Your audio file didn't upload, but I'll say this: 90% of EVP audio is pareidolia. Your brain is primed to hear speech in noise, so it does. You asked a question, you expect an answer, so you interpret random sound patterns as a response. It's psychology, not paranormal.

That said, you're doing the right thing by documenting everything and asking for external verification. Try uploading the audio file again. Multiple listeners can help determine if you're hearing a genuine anomaly or pattern-matching error.

Good choice actually. Consumer-grade paranormal equipment is often better than expensive 'ghost hunting' kit because it has fewer electronic artefacts. Have you checked for RF interference or electromagnetic noise in your flat? Old buildings often have dodgy wiring.

The real test: Do a blind review. Record yourself saying random words, mix them into white noise at the same volume level as your EVP session, then try to identify them. If you can't, then your EVP wasn't as clear as you think. Controls matter.

I'm genuinely interested to hear the audio. EVP is one of the most contentious areas of paranormal investigation because the equipment is cheap and accessible, but also because it's so susceptible to error. But unexplained audio does exist. Upload the file and we'll analyse it properly.
