@LeedsWeasel that distinction you're drawing - feeling vs something actually happening - is worth pressing on. In my experience documenting sightings, the two aren't always separate.
Yeah this is something I've noticed a fair bit actually. There's almost like a build-up before anything coherent comes through, like the signal is being tuned or something.

Or maybe there just isn't as much activity in UK airspace? The US gets more sightings because it's geographically larger. Less to hide if there's less to see.
What recording devices do you recommend? I've got a basic phone recorder but wondering if there's better audio equipment for picking up EVP work that won't break the bank.
