Interesting timing question - I've noticed the real spikes are actually 3-4 days BEFORE the equinox, not on the day itself. Might be worth checking your records more precisely?

Take more photos as the marks fade - document the changes. If they reappear in the same pattern, that's more indicative of something systematic.
