Saved this. Brilliant resource. One question though - is there a UK community for sharing observations? Like a national database or something?

A primatologist actually did a proper gait analysis of the Patterson film a few years back (can't remember the name but it was published somewhere academic).

Borley Rectory is tourist trap nonsense now though isn't it? It's been knocked down and rebuilt. All the 'genuine' hauntings were from the original structure.
The trifield is decent but overpriced if you ask me. I use one occasionally but it's not a game-changer. The K2 is fine for most purposes.

Right, I've watched the Patterson-Gimlin film from 1967 about fifty times now, and every time I watch it I change my mind.

What would be useful is if someone did a proper analysis of reports from, say, 2015-2020 versus 2021-2024. Control for population growth, internet usage increases, all that.

The notebook thing cannot be overstated. I know three people who've captured genuinely strange footage and can't remember half the details because they didn't write anything down at the time.

My dad sent it to me with a message like 'see, you're not completely mad after all' which I suppose is progress?

The US released their UAP info relatively recently. If ours was genuinely 'just' an embarrassing incident, why not follow suit?
I thought it was pretty balanced, tbh. Didn't make us all sound mad. Still annoyed me though. The way the writer kept saying 'believers' instead of 'researchers' or 'investigators.' That language...

Your 70/30 estimate seems reasonable. Though I'd add a third factor: social media algorithms. If you engage with one paranormal post, your feed fills up with them.

Either Borley's genuinely one of the most active locations in England, or those meters are picking up interference from the building's wiring. Bit of column A, bit of column B, I reckon.

Reasonable theory but you're being quite generous to government competence. Ever considered that they genuinely lost the good files? Or they were never properly archived?
Yeah, read it on Sunday morning with my coffee. Thought it was genuinely well researched. The bit about military pilots coming forward was strong - hard to dismiss a commodore or whatever with 30...

Question: what weather conditions are best? Clear night obvious, but does cloud cover help or hinder? I've read conflicting stuff about whether UAPs are more visible in certain weather.

Good guide but I'd add: get an infrared camera as well if your budget stretches. UAPs allegedly show up differently in IR spectrum.

Did anyone read that piece in the Guardian on Sunday? Proper long-form journalism, took the whole paranormal community somewhat seriously.
The thing that frustrates me is they're still acting like Rendlesham is some sort of state secret in 2024. It was over 40 years ago! Release the files and move on.
You want somewhere with minimal light pollution and clear sight lines. This is the real challenge if you're anywhere near civilisation.
