Join a Paranormal Camping Expedition
Investigating the paranormal does not have to be a solitary pursuit. Across the UK, groups of like-minded enthusiasts organise regular camping investigation expeditions to haunted locations. Here is how to find them — or start your own.
Benefits of Group Investigation
- Safety: Remote overnight investigations are significantly safer with a group
- Equipment sharing: Pool resources for a more comprehensive investigation setup
- Multiple witnesses: Corroborated sightings carry more weight than solo reports
- Experience transfer: Learn techniques from more experienced investigators
- Social: Share the experience with people who will not think you are mad
Finding Groups
The Quirk Reports forum is a great place to find investigation groups in your area. Check the How-To & Field Craft section for organised events, or post in the Lounge to find local investigators.
Organising Your Own Expedition
Step 1: Choose a Location
Pick a site with documented activity and legal wild camping access. Research the location thoroughly — know what has been reported there and what equipment would be most useful.
Step 2: Set a Date
New moon weekends offer the darkest skies. Avoid bank holidays (too many other campers). Consider the time of year — some locations have seasonal activity patterns.
Step 3: Recruit Your Team
Four to eight people is ideal. Enough for safety and equipment coverage without being so many that you contaminate the investigation site.
Step 4: Assign Roles
- Team leader: Overall coordination and decision-making
- Safety officer: First aid, emergency procedures, check-ins
- Tech lead: Equipment setup, monitoring, evidence collection
- Documentarian: Logging all events with timestamps and locations
Step 5: Debrief
After every expedition, meet to review evidence, compare experiences, and discuss next steps. Share findings on the Quirk Reports forum for community analysis.
