Honestly mate the MoD no information held response is the most predictable thing in British bureaucracy.
You're largely right and I'll add another one to the list: thermal imaging cameras. A cold spot is usually a cold spot - a draughty window, a stone floor, differential heating from an old...

Right, so I've spent the better part of this week going through the transcripts from the recent US Congressional UAP hearings and I have to say, whatever your position on all this, the tone has...
I want to start by saying I've been doing investigations for eight years and I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade here.
Agree completely and I'll go further - the orb thing has genuinely infected serious investigation. I was on a group outing to a location in Derbyshire last autumn (won't name it, owner is private...

You're not wrong but I'd push back slightly on the framing. The issue isn't that people are posting bad evidence - it's that they don't have the tools or knowledge to assess what they've captured.

Just looked at photo three. Okay, I'll admit that's... not obviously deer. The width-to-length ratio is off for red deer even with splay.

I need to have a bit of a moan and I hope people will take this in the spirit it's intended, which is constructive criticism of our own community rather than an attack on anyone specifically.

Photos are up now in the gallery, I've labelled them YorksMoor_June24_1 through 3. The third one is the clearest.

Dave thinks it was a large deer walking in a weird pattern. I think Dave is wrong.Dave is almost certainly right, mate. Sorry.

I live just outside Helmsley and walk that stretch of moor regularly for work (I do dry stone walling up that way).

On the storage question: I use a 256GB card (about £22) and run it on the lowest resolution setting that still captures useful detail - 1080p at 30fps.
Really appreciate this guide, been meaning to get more systematic about all this for ages. One question: the GoPro on continuous record - how do you manage the storage?

Oh here we go, first reply is already trying to explain it away with deer. Classic. The North York Moors have had more unexplained sightings and track finds than most of southern England combined...

Deer prints in soft peat can do some really odd things, especially red deer stags - the cleaves splay out massively when the ground is waterlogged and the weight sinks in unevenly.

The Loch Rannoch account is interesting and frustrating in equal measure, for the obvious reason. The 'stationary then rapid lateral movement' description is one of the more common characteristics...

Right, so I wasn't even out looking for anything unusual. Me and my mate Dave were doing the Lyke Wake Walk - Saturday, 14th June, set off from Osmotherley around 6am, overcast, bit of drizzle,...

I was out near Loch Rannoch in the Scottish Highlands in March - completely clear night, no light pollution worth mentioning, temperature about -4°C.

The subforum idea has actually come up before in the team's discussions - noting it here so it doesn't get lost.

One practical suggestion if the mod team is open to it: could we have a dedicated 'Evidence Review' subforum where posts are subject to slightly higher standards - structured write-ups, stated...
