The 'we're looking in the wrong place' argument is unfalsifiable though, isn't it? That's the problem. Every time we don't find evidence, someone says 'well we must be looking in the wrong spot'.
Definitely worth the trip to Pendle Hill or up towards the Peak District for darker skies. The light pollution maps online are actually quite accurate.
I've got a different angle on this. What if the 'glitches' are our perception catching up with quantum variations? Quantum mechanics suggests multiple states exist simultaneously until observed.
