@JordanGrimshaw is right about that feeling - when something won't leave your head it's usually because your brain is still trying to process what it actually saw.
Location matters a lot here.
The lack of good photos is actually the strongest indicator that it's probably just big cats (escaped from collections or released by owners) and our brains doing the rest.
The ranch is worth studying because the concentration of reports is genuinely unusual, but I'm increasingly convinced the most interesting findings get either suppressed or edited out.
