Woke up with strange marks and no memory of last night - legitimate concern or panic?

I'm absolutely terrified and I need to know if I'm having a legitimate paranormal experience or if I'm having some kind of episode. Last night I went to bed normally around 11 PM. This morning I woke up at 7 AM feeling absolutely exhausted (slept for 8 hours but feel like I haven't slept at all) and I have three perfectly linear marks on my left arm - like three small scratches or punctures arranged in a line.

I don't remember anything unusual during the night. No nightmares, no dreams that I can recall. No noise. My girlfriend was asleep next to me the whole time and didn't notice anything. But I have no explanation for these marks and they're exactly the kind of thing I've read about in abduction accounts on here.

I'm trying not to panic but this is genuinely frightening. Has anyone experienced something similar? Should I go to A&E? Should I be investigating this as a possible abduction event?

Deep breath - this is almost certainly explainable. Three linear marks could be self-inflicted scratches you made in your sleep and forgot about, could be a reaction to something (detergent, fabric), could be a minor dermatological issue. The fatigue could be stress, poor sleep quality, or a number of mundane causes.

That's actually quite common in sleep disturbances. People scratch themselves at night without remembering. The linearity might feel significant but it's probably just how you happened to scratch. Take a photo, monitor for any change, see a GP if they become infected or don't heal normally.

The extreme fatigue despite adequate sleep is worth investigating - that can indicate a number of medical issues from thyroid problems to sleep apnoea to simple stress. See a doctor about that regardless of the marks. But honestly, the marks are almost certainly mundane. Not everything unusual is paranormal.

That said, if you're genuinely concerned, get a full physical from your GP - rule out infection, allergic reactions, etc. Also keep a sleep log going forward. If you start having regular incidents with no medical explanation, then we're talking about something more unusual. But one isolated incident is most likely explainable.

I don't want to dismiss you, but this is exactly the kind of thing that spirals if you're not careful. You've read about abduction marks, you find marks, your anxiety confirms the connection. If you go down that path without ruling out mundane causes first, you'll drive yourself mad. Medical evaluation first, paranormal theories second.
