Woke up to find I'd been sleepwalking - ended up in the attic

This is going to sound absolutely barking mad, but I genuinely need to figure out what happened. Last Saturday night, I went to bed around 11 PM as normal. Next thing I know, it's 3:47 AM and I'm waking up in my attic, in the dark, with no idea how I got there.

I live in a Victorian semi in Bristol and the attic access is one of those pull-down ladder jobs in the hallway ceiling. I would've had to wake up (at least partially), find the pole, hook it down, pull the ladder down, and climb up. All whilst apparently asleep. This isn't my first sleepwalking episode - I've done it before - but I've never gone *this* far before.

What's bothering me more: when I woke up in the attic, I had this absolutely vivid sense that I was looking for something. Or being called up there. I can't quite explain it. My partner thinks I should see a doctor, which I probably should, but the feeling when I woke up wasn't sleepy confusion - it was purposeful. Like I'd been sent up there to retrieve something.

Has anyone experienced sleepwalking that feels less like automatic behaviour and more like... external direction?

Mate, you should definitely see a doctor first. Sleepwalking can be a sign of sleep disorders, stress, medication side effects - all very explainable medical stuff. Get that ruled out before jumping to paranormal conclusions. That said, the "purposeful" feeling is interesting. Could be your subconscious presenting an explanation after the fact.

This sounds like sleep paralysis combined with false awakening, which is absolutely nightmarish but also completely explicable. Your brain wakes up before your body does, and you experience a gap between consciousness and bodily control. The sense of being "guided" is actually a very common feature of these episodes - it's your brain trying to make sense of the experience.

Or, and I'm not saying this is definitely what happened, but Victorian houses do sometimes have... presences. If something in that attic has been dormant and waiting, a sleepwalking episode could be exactly the kind of vulnerability a spirit might exploit. Not trying to spook you (no pun intended), but if it happens again, consider asking whatever's there to leave you alone.

Right so we're back to talking to ghosts like they're going to listen. Look, statistically this is almost certainly a medical issue. Please do see a GP. Sleepwalking can be dangerous - you could've fallen off that ladder and seriously injured yourself.

Have you checked the attic for anything unusual? Old documents, old belongings, anything that might suggest a previous resident was buried or hidden up there? I know that sounds extreme but Victorian houses sometimes have the most unsettling secrets tucked away in the rafters.
