Genuine question: The Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire are one of the most atmospheric ancient sites in Britain, right? Older than Stonehenge in some respects. But you barely hear about them compared to all the Stonehenge chat. Is it because they're less touristy, or is there something else?
I visited last summer and the atmosphere was dense. There's a local legend about counting the stones and never getting the same number twice. Have any of you experienced anything unusual there? And more broadly, why do certain ancient sites capture the public imagination while others fade into obscurity?
