Why do they always close the roads on winter solstice? Coincidence or cover-up?

Right, this has been bugging me for years. Every December around the 21st, there's roadworks or 'emergency maintenance' on the A66 near Penrith, same stretch every single year. I've checked the records going back to 2008. Always December, always the same 5-mile stretch, always closes for roughly 48 hours.

Now I'm not saying it's aliens (okay, maybe a bit), but why would they need to maintain the same road in the same place at the exact same time every year? What's happening out there on the winter solstice that requires the military or whoever to cordon it off? The Pennines are full of ancient sites - standing stones, burial mounds, all aligned to solstices. Too convenient if you ask me.

Has anyone else noticed this pattern in their area? I'm compiling a list. Would love to hear if other solstice-adjacent road closures happen elsewhere in the UK.

Mate, you've cracked it. I work for National Highways and I can categorically tell you it's just because winter causes loads of potholes and we batch repairs together. Nothing sinister. But sure, enjoy your conspiracy.

Have you considered that winter IS when roads deteriorate most? Ice, salt damage, freeze-thaw cycles? It's not a cover-up, it's basic infrastructure management. Though I do find the Pennines interesting from an archaeological standpoint - genuine neolithic sites in that region.

This is actually interesting. I've noticed similar patterns around Stonehenge - extra police presence around solstice dates, cordoned-off areas. Official story is 'visitor management' but I've always wondered. There's definitely something about these energy vortexes they don't want us accessing freely. Keep digging, OP.

Lmao this is the most Reddit thing I've ever read on Quirk Reports. 'Why does winter road maintenance happen in winter?' is not the conspiracy you think it is. Though the solstice stuff IS genuinely fascinating from a cultural history angle.
