What was that light over the Pennines yesterday evening?

I'm near Glossop and at around 9:15 PM last night I saw a very bright, steady white light moving slowly across the sky from north to south. It was silent and seemed to be maintaining a constant altitude. Weather was clear, reasonable visibility.

It wasn't moving like a plane - too slow and the trajectory was odd. It wasn't the ISS (wrong angle, wrong time, wrong colour). I got my binoculars and it appeared to have a subtle greenish tinge and possibly some sort of structure, but it was too distant to be certain.

Lasted about four minutes visible time. I immediately checked flight tracking apps and there's nothing showing. Local airports didn't report anything unusual. So... what was it? Does anyone else in the Pennines area see anything last night?

I'm in Stockport and I saw something similar around the same time! Bright light, silent, moving south. I assumed it was a late plane but you're right, the movement was off. The greenish tinge is interesting - I didn't notice that but I wasn't using binoculars. Did you note a direction it came from?

Could easily be a Chinese lantern at distance. They maintain steady altitude for surprisingly long and can appear to have structure. They're typically reddish but can appear whitish depending on viewing angle and light conditions. The "silent" part fits too.

Define odd? What was the specific trajectory? Planes can appear to move slowly at high altitude depending on your viewing angle. Need more detail to rule out conventional aircraft. What was its apparent altitude roughly?

The greenish tinge combined with silence and slow movement is interesting though. Sounds like it could have been a high-altitude satellite with some atmospheric distortion. The Iridium constellation satellites can appear quite bright and greenish depending on solar angle. Have you checked Heavens-Above app?

I didn't see it from Manchester but there was increased air traffic yesterday evening - I heard two separate low-altitude aircraft late afternoon. Might have been unusual military activity given the Pennine proximity to RAF bases. Could've been something classified being moved under cover of dusk.
