What's the most convincing paranormal case you've personally encountered?

Genuine question for you all - not looking to start a debate about whether ghosts are real, just curious what's actually spooked you the most.

For me, it was about 12 years ago in my old flat in Hackney. Woke up at 3:47am (checked the clock, couldn't get back to sleep) to find every single door in the house open. And I mean every one - bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, cupboards. I'd locked up before bed like always, and my flatmate hadn't heard anything. Could've been a draft or settling floorboards I suppose, but the way they were all equally open, all at the same angle... still gives me the creeps thinking about it.

Anyone else got a proper personal experience that still bothers them?

Mine would have to be the Rendlesham Forest incident - oh wait, you said personally. Fair enough. Seriously though, my weirdest experience was in my parents' house in rural Yorkshire. Heard what sounded like someone running up the stairs, heavy footsteps, got to the top and absolutely nothing. Parents heard it too. House is from the 1800s so who knows what happened there.

The problem with personal experiences is they're so subjective innit. Doors could've been open for a hundred reasons - air pressure changes, dodgy locks, someone breaking in and just messing with you (cheerful thought). I'm not being a prick about it, just saying that's why we need evidence-based investigation. Still, sounds creepy as hell though!

I had something similar with doors opening in an old pub in Cornwall. Turned out to be a structural issue - the building was settling and moving the door frames just enough that latches wouldn't hold. Took a surveyor about 20 minutes to figure it out. Sometimes the mundane explanation is the right one, but that doesn't make it any less unsettling when it's happening at 3am.

EVP recording at Pendle Hill back in 2019. Got a voice on tape saying 'get out' clear as day. No one was near the recorder, checked the audio levels, checked for electromagnetic interference, the lot. Still can't explain it. That's the one that actually made me believe something was going on.

Your doors opening thing reminds me of those stories about Poltergeists - supposedly they're about telekinetic activity triggered by adolescents in the house. Bit of a stretch but worth reading up on. The old folklore around it is fascinating even if the science is dodgy.
