Bit of a silly one before we get into spooky season proper, but I'm genuinely curious: do any of you lot actually dress up as paranormal-related stuff for Halloween? Or is that tempting fate, like you're inviting actual entities to your house?

I've been thinking about going as a Bigfoot, which seems low-risk - just a big hairy costume, no real spiritual significance. But then I thought: would actual cryptid researchers find that offensive? Like, you're turning a genuine mystery into fancy dress? And that's before we get into dressing up as "ghosts" or specific hauntings, which seems genuinely dodgy from an occult perspective.

Alternatively, dressing up as Spring-heeled Jack might be brilliant - historically grounded cryptid, immediately recognizable, and the outfit is just a fancy coat and spring boots. But again, if Jack was a genuine paranormal entity (which some people argue), is invoking the image of him asking for trouble?

This is probably me overthinking it, but I'd rather not accidentally summon something because I thought my costume was funny. Anyone else had paranormal weirdness around Halloween that made them more cautious about what they dress up as?

You're 100% overthinking it mate. Halloween costumes aren't occult invitations. The whole "dressing as ghosts summons spirits" thing is nonsense. That said, I avoid dressing as specific entities from folklore because it feels disrespectful to the traditions rather than for paranormal reasons. But Bigfoot? That's fine, it's already cartoonish and fun.

Spring-heeled Jack is actually a brilliant choice because the historical figure was probably just hysteria and misidentification anyway, unlike direct folklore entities. Though if you want to be genuinely paranoid: the Victorians thought he was supernatural and the accounts describe something genuinely impossible (100-foot leaps, metal claws). So maybe avoid that too? Honestly just go as a ghost or a vampire and don't overthink it.

Ha, no. Most cryptid researchers probably dress up in field gear for 364 days a year anyway. Using Bigfoot as a Halloween costume is fine. Go for it. The only costumes worth avoiding are the ones directly mocking specific cultural beliefs or recent deaths.

Okay but genuine question: has anyone experienced weird paranormal activity specifically around Halloween despite having no supernatural decorations? I ask because last year I did absolutely nothing special - no costumes, no decorations, no spooky vibes - and October 31st was genuinely the most active night paranormally I've experienced. So it's not about inviting things with costumes, something just happens that night regardless.
