As we properly enter the dark nights (my least favourite time of year if I'm honest) I reckon it's good timing to share what people are actually investigating or planning to investigate before spring rolls around.

I'm planning:

1) Pendle Hill expedition - I've mentioned this elsewhere but I'm properly committing to it in January/February when the weather is at its absolute worst (because apparently that's when activity peaks)
2) Local cemetery research - there's a Victorian cemetery near me with some genuinely odd graves, want to document the history
3) Probably one proper urban investigation - there's a derelict hospital in Manchester I've had my eye on

Would love to hear what everyone else is up to. Are you focused on one area or project, or doing general exploration? Any recommendations for sites that are accessible (legally, ideally!) and actually worth investigating?

Also keen to know: does anyone else get seasonal affective nonsense from the dark nights, and does it affect your ability to investigate? The longer nights mess with my head but I've got better activity reports in winter so it's worth pushing through.

I'm focusing on water-based investigations this winter - specifically canals and rivers in the Midlands where there's been historical deaths. Winter water is spookier somehow and fewer people are around. Already got permission from the Canal Trust to do proper documented work. If anyone in the area wants to join a team, let me know!

Absolutely. I take vitamin D supplements and a light therapy lamp (£35 from Boots, actually works) and it's genuinely helped. You're not alone in this - loads of investigators struggle with winter depression. Light therapy + exercise helps more than you'd think.

I'm doing a proper systematic study of Borley Rectory archives this winter - not going to the site, just researching historical documentation and trying to separate fact from legend. There's so much misinformation about that place. Want to create a comprehensive resource document.

Just planning to finally visit Rendlesham Forest and see if I can get anything on my equipment. Been meaning to go for years. Probably February when it's at maximum spookiness. Anyone been recently? Is it worth the trip or is it totally sanitized for tourists now?

I'm taking a break from active investigation and focusing on forum research instead. Going through old paranormal community records from the 1990s, cross-referencing with public documents. Winter is good for indoor research! Plus my knees can't handle muddy moors anymore.

Honestly just doing general exploration of the London Underground tunnels (the "legal" bits obviously!) and documenting historical hauntings in Zone 1. London's got incredible paranormal history that gets ignored because everyone's obsessed with countryside investigations. Urban hauntings are underrated.

Not investigating anything this winter - taking the season off to read and study instead. But keen to hear how everyone else gets on! Winter investigations are proper intense so do everyone a favour and invest in decent cold-weather kit. Hypothermia is not spooky, it's just dangerous.
