Unexplained Lights Over London Underground Platform - Anyone Else See This Last Wednesday?

This happened last Wednesday evening (17th inst.) around 7:15pm at King's Cross St Pancras station. I was waiting on the Northern Line platform and the lights flickered - normal for the Underground, annoying but normal. But then there was this weird greenish glow coming from the tunnel, about 10 seconds, moving away from the station deeper into the tunnel. Not a train (wrong colour, wrong movement).

I looked around and about half the platform seemed to notice it too. Some people were definitely checking their phones to see if anyone else had posted about it, but I didn't see anything in the transport alerts. The flickering lasted maybe 15 seconds total then stopped.

I know this could be anything - faulty lighting, maintenance work, something technical - but I've used the Underground about four times a week for five years and I've never seen that before. Anyone else there? Anyone got photos? Or has this happened before at other stations?

Almost certainly TfL maintenance or a fault with the signalling system. The Underground's Victorian in some places and held together with duct tape and prayer. Weird electrical phenomena happens underground all the time. That's my best guess anyway.

I was there! I didn't see the greenish glow myself but I definitely felt something weird when the lights flickered. My ears popped a bit, like pressure change. Probably nothing but I remember thinking it was odd. Don't have photos unfortunately.

This is interesting because several people noticed it, which rules out personal hallucination or trick of the light affecting one person. Multiple witnesses to the same phenomenon is actually worth documenting. Have you reported it to TfL?

No it doesn't. Shared expectations and social proof cause mass misidentification all the time. If you see flickering lights and think 'that's odd' and look around, everyone else will assume it WAS odd and start looking for explanations.

King's Cross is still dealing with repairs after that major fire scare a few months back. Could be related to rewiring. Might be worth checking TfL's maintenance schedule for that week.
