UK MOD releases 200+ new declassified UFO files - what we're actually seeing

The MOD just released another batch of declassified documents through the National Archives and there's some genuinely interesting stuff in here. I've spent the last two days going through them and thought I'd share highlights.

Key findings: The MOD was far more interested in UFO sightings than official statements suggested. There are literally dozens of internal memos from the 1970s-1990s requesting investigation of civilian reports. They weren't dismissing them, they were actively investigating.

The interesting bit: Several reports of objects exhibiting flight characteristics that shouldn't be possible with 1970s technology - consistent altitude changes, impossible acceleration rates, that sort of thing. Now, that could mean: (a) alien technology, (b) undisclosed human technology, (c) misidentification of known objects, (d) hoax reports. The MOD apparently thought (a) or (b) were worth investigating.

The frustrating bit: Large sections of these documents are still redacted. 'National Security' reasons supposedly. Which makes you wonder what else they're still not releasing.

The boring bit: About 60% of the reports, once investigated properly, turned out to be misidentified aircraft, satellites, or weather balloons. Exactly what you'd expect.

I've put together a summary document linking to all the declassified files and noting which ones seem genuinely unexplained. Happy to share if anyone wants it. This is exactly the sort of thing that should be publicly available and honestly discussed rather than being filed away and forgotten.

The redactions are the real story here. The MOD releasing these documents is good, but the fact that they're still redacting large sections 40+ years later suggests they know something they're not telling us. Probably not aliens, but definitely something classified.

Could be undisclosed human technology though. Cold War was ongoing, both sides were developing classified aircraft. The U2, the SR-71, stuff we didn't know about for decades. Easy to report something as 'unidentified' when the military knows exactly what it is but can't say.

The fact that 60% had mundane explanations is actually quite reassuring. Shows the MOD weren't credulous - they investigated and found real explanations where they existed. The remaining 40% is where it gets interesting.

Would definitely appreciate that summary document if you're willing to share. This is exactly the type of primary source material that should be discussed seriously instead of being buried in government archives.

One thing that strikes me reading these documents is how formal and careful the language is. These aren't crackpots filing reports, these are trained military observers using proper terminology and documentation. That lends weight to the sightings even if we still don't know what they saw.
