The thing I saw on the Scottish Highlands trail - still trying to make sense of it

About three weeks ago I was hiking in the Cairngorms with my brother, just a casual day walk up around Braemar way. Weather was decent - bit overcast but visibility was good. We were at maybe 2,000 feet elevation when we spotted something in the distance on the trail ahead of us.

At first I thought it was a dog, but as we got closer, it was clearly bipedal. Massive, though - much taller than any human I've ever seen. I'd estimate eight, maybe nine feet tall. It was covered in what looked like dark fur or hair, and it was moving really purposefully down the trail toward us.

My brother froze completely. I got my phone out to try to film it, but by the time I had the camera ready, it just... stepped sideways off the trail and vanished into the undergrowth. Moved with this strange kind of loping gait, nothing like a bear or any animal I could identify.

I know how this sounds. Believe me, I know. But I'm certain of what I saw. We walked the rest of the way in silence, a bit shaken up. Neither of us said much about it for the first week, which is telling I think. We both knew we'd seen something we couldn't explain.

Did you check for tracks? That would be the most objective evidence. If you saw what you're describing, there would be footprints in the soil or disturbed vegetation in the direction it went.

I'm not going to tell you you're lying, but I will say that the Cairngorms get decent wildlife - red deer can stand very tall when on their hind legs, and in certain light conditions and at distance, they can appear much larger than they actually are. Also, pareidolia's a thing - our brains are wired to see humanoid shapes, especially when we're already thinking about them.

There's actually a decent history of Bigfoot/Sasquatch sightings in the Scottish Highlands. People don't talk about it as much as the American stuff, but there's definitely a body of anecdotal evidence. The terrain's similar enough that if the creature exists anywhere, it could exist there. Worth checking the Scottish Cryptid Database to see if there's been other reports in that area.

This detail interests me because it's specific and it's not something you'd typically describe unless you'd actually seen something with an unusual gait. What specifically about it struck you as strange? Compared to what, exactly?

Did your brother take any photos or video? You said you got your phone out but the creature had vanished by then - did he manage to capture anything? Or are you both relying on memory and mutual corroboration?

This is genuinely interesting. I'd love to see a map of where exactly you were when you spotted it. There's probably a Bigfoot research group in Scotland who'd be interested in cataloguing the sighting. Even without photo evidence, eyewitness testimony from multiple witnesses is valuable.
