Just spotted this on the MoD website - they're re-releasing some of the Rendlesham Forest files in December with previously redacted sections. This is the December 1980 incident, obviously one of the most credible UFO sightings in UK history.

The original investigation was allegedly suppressed and various researchers have been trying to get the full documentation released for literal decades. I'm wondering if the new stuff will actually tell us anything new or if it'll just be more bureaucratic waffle with the actually interesting bits still blacked out.

Has anyone got connections to the original investigators or the military personnel involved? They'd be approaching retirement age now - some might be willing to talk if someone approached them properly.

The Rendlesham files are almost certainly going to be underwhelming. Governments don't release information when it genuinely threatens national security narratives. If they're releasing these now, it's because they're confident the content won't change anyone's mind or because they're burying actual evidence under mountains of procedural documents. Classic misdirection.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The MoD has actually been pretty cooperative about UFO disclosure in recent years compared to, say, the CIA or American government. The files might actually contain something interesting. I'll definitely be requesting copies when they're available.

One of the original witnesses, John Burroughs, has actually been quite public about it in recent interviews. He's done podcasts and given proper testimony. From what he's said, the incident was definitely something unusual - whether it was extraterrestrial is another question. The new files probably won't give us that answer though.

I'd actually argue it's the most credible because we have military eyewitnesses, documented observations, and physical evidence (or evidence of physical evidence). Even if the new files are heavily redacted, the mere fact that something happened that was significant enough to document extensively is kind of the point, innit?
