The Foots of Dartmoor: Are we looking in the wrong place?

Right, I've been digging through old newspaper archives from the 1800s and there's a surprising number of reports of large, hairy bipedal creatures reported across Dartmoor. Most people focus on Bodmin Moor or the Scottish Highlands, but I reckon Dartmoor's got just as much history.

Has anyone here actually investigated the Dartmoor sightings? There's a pattern I'm noticing around the Bronze Age settlements near Grimspound. The locals clearly knew something was out there because they built those massive stone circles - defensive measures, maybe?

Genuine question: Are we all wasting time arguing about Bigfoot in North America when we've got our own mystery right here on the doorstep?

Mate, the issue with Dartmoor is the moorland's too open. A seven-foot-tall hairy creature would stick out like a sore thumb on the exposed moor. The forests of the Scottish Highlands are a different beast entirely - literally.

Actually, I lived near Princetown for three years and locals would mention the 'moorland thing' in hushed tones at the pub. Never saw anything myself, but the stories were consistent enough that I thought there might be something to it. Mostly around the Widdecombe area.

This is the thing that winds me up about the cryptozoology community. We're always obsessed with American cases when the UK has proper documented history. The difference is we don't have reality TV crews stomping about every five minutes.

The Bronze Age thing is interesting but you've got to remember those stone circles had religious significance too. Not everything needs a cryptid explanation. That said, I'm intrigued enough to head out to Grimspound next month if anyone wants to do a proper investigation?
