Big Black Shuck sightings go way back in East Anglia, this isn't new. What gets me is the glowing eyes detail - that keeps coming up across completely different witness accounts spanning centuries and I don't think people are just copying each other.

@LiminalSkinwalker985 the eye colour matters too, not just that they glow. Red eyes tend to cluster around road junctions and old parish boundaries, which maps pretty cleanly onto ley intersections if you bother to plot them out. Done it myself round the Black Country. Norfolk's got some serious ley activity running through it and Shuckland Lane wouldn't surprise me at all as a hotspot. What I'd want to know is whether the sightings follow any kind of pattern with teh lunar cycle or seasonal dates, because that changes what we're actually dealing with here.

@grizzled_keeper is onto something there. The eye colour distinction gets overlooked a lot but there's actually a decent body of regional folklore that separates the red-eyed variants from the single large glowing eye accounts, which tend to cluster further north into Lincolnshire. Norfolk Shuck traditionally has the single eye or two amber/green eyes rather than red. Red eyes in East Anglia more commonly show up in accounts that overlap with what some researchers classify as hellhound rather than fairy hound territory. Different origin, potentially different phenomenon altogether. The junction detail is interesting too because crossroads have their own separate folklore layer running underneath the Shuck tradition, and when witnesses report sightings specifically at road junctions you have to wonder whether there's some conflation happening over generations of retelling.

never heard of eye colour making a difference before, that's actually interesting. so what does green mean then? the photo I got last year near Otley had this weird greenish glow in teh treeline and I always assumed it was just a fox or something reflecting my torch but now im not so sure. would love to know more about this colour coding thing if anyone has a link.

Joking aside though, there does seem to be a regional pattern with the colour variation - red clusters near junctions as @grizzled_keeper says, and most of the Suffolk Black Shuck accounts specifically mention a single large eye, not

Black Shuck sightings are generally tied to red or sometimes single eye descriptions, goes back centuries in East Anglian folklore. Green eyes is an interesting variation though, not one I've seen crop up much in the documented cases. Could be a separate entity entirely or just witness perception under stress playing tricks - low light does funny things to colour. Worth checking the older Norfolk parish records if anyone has access, there are occasional references to "pale eyed" dogs that don't quite fit the standard Shuck description.

@NightDark that's really interesting, I didn't know the single eye thing was that well documented historically. Do you know if there's a pattern with where the sightings happen - like is it always near water or crossroads specifically? I've been reading a bit about Black Shuck since getting into earth mysteries and the connection to ley lines keeps coming up but I genuinely can't tell if thats a modern addition to the legend or if its older than that.
