Summer solstice experience on the Salisbury Plain - still can't explain it

This happened on June 21st at about 3:47am, and I'm only posting about it now because my mate finally convinced me I wasn't going mad.

My girlfriend and I had driven out to the Plain to watch the sunrise (we're a bit hippy-dippy like that). We parked near Stonehenge - not right at it, about half a mile away, proper remote - and got out of the car with a flask of tea. Weather was perfectly clear, stars everywhere, that sort of beautiful night you get maybe once a year.

Around 3:45am, we both heard this sound. It wasn't quite a hum, wasn't quite a pulse... rhythmic is the only word I can use. And the stones - I'm almost certain I saw them glow. Not brightly, just this faint bioluminescent sort of thing. We stood there for about 15 seconds before my girlfriend grabbed my arm and we both bolted back to the car without speaking.

We didn't discuss it for three days. When we finally did, we'd both remembered it identically, which honestly spooked us more than the actual experience. I've got a geology degree, so I know about phosphorescence and atmospheric phenomena, but I can't square it with what we experienced.

Has anyone else had similar encounters at significant dates or places?

Brilliant post. The solstice connection is important - there's definitely something about the astronomical alignment. Borley Rectory had increased activity during solstices, and so did Rendlesham Forest. The fact you both remembered it the same way is textbook genuine encounter material.

Mate, you've just described bioluminescence from quartz deposits. The Salisbury Plain's absolutely riddled with them. Simple geology, no mystery needed. Still cool though!

I don't want to raise the alarm, but has either of you felt odd since that night? Unusual dreams, health stuff, anything like that? Not trying to worry you, just... sometimes there are longer-term effects people don't immediately connect.

You should absolutely report this to the proper channels. We've got a form specifically for solstice-adjacent events. I'll DM you the link - might help with the research database.
