Summer solstice alignments at Stonehenge - what's actually happening?

Right, I've been reading about the solstice crowds at Stonehenge and it got me thinking - is there something genuinely anomalous about the alignment, or are we all just pattern-matching like mad? I visited on the summer solstice back in 2019 and I'll be honest, the energy felt off. Couldn't sleep that night despite being knackered.

The official line is it's just ancient astronomical knowledge, but the precision is absolutely bonkers innit. Couldn't have been luck. Were the ancients working with information we've lost? Or am I just a credulous muppet who bought a dodgy pasty from the car park and got indigestion?

Anyone else been to witness it properly? Not the tourist version with the druids and the porta-loos, but actually felt something?

Spent the night there in 1994 with a proper archaeologist mate. The alignment's real enough, but here's the thing - so is the law of large numbers. You align enough stones with enough celestial events, eventually you'll hit paydirt. That said, the acoustic properties of the stone circle are properly weird. Sound behaves differently inside the ring. Probably down to physics, but spooky nonetheless.

The energy you felt was probably just the standing for six hours and the portable toilets, mate. I'm a believer in most things but let's not pretend every tingle is supernatural. That said, the Neolithic people clearly had astronomical knowledge that shouldn't have been possible. That's the real mystery.

You want to know what's mental? The Heel Stone casts a shadow directly onto the Altar Stone at dawn on the solstice. Every single year. The builders had to understand precession, geometry, and sight lines across centuries. Either they were geniuses or they had help. I know which camp I'm in.

Ha! Fair point. Though I'd argue if ancient peoples were deliberately building places to mess with human consciousness using acoustics and alignment, that's still extraordinary and worth understanding.
