Bit nervous posting this because it sounds mad, but genuinely looking for explanations or similar reports. This happened about three weeks ago on the Northern Line between Leicester Square and Tottenham Court Road, around 11 PM.

I was the only passenger in my carriage - usual for that time on a Tuesday night. The train was moving normally when it suddenly lurched and the lights flickered. Nothing too unusual for London Underground. But then I noticed the temperature had dropped dramatically. Like, I could see my breath. The other passengers in adjacent carriages didn't seem to notice or care.

For about twenty seconds, I felt genuinely watched. Not paranoid, genuinely uncomfortable. Then the train moved into the next station, the temperature went back to normal, and everything was fine. No one else mentioned anything weird.

I'm a skeptic about most of this stuff, but that was properly unsettling. The London Underground's got a documented history of paranormal reports - Aldwych, Bank, all sorts. But I've never experienced anything myself until now.

Anyone else had something similar on the tube? Or is there a logical explanation for sudden temperature drops in a moving train?

The Tube's got an interesting energy to it. I've felt similar things - less like actual hauntings and more like the accumulated weight of a century and a half of human traffic and history. Whether that's psychological or something else, I honestly don't know.

Okay, so plausible explanation: the train's temperature control system cycled. They can be a bit erratic on older lines, and the Northern Line's got some ancient infrastructure. You happened to be in that carriage when it adjusted. The 'watched' feeling is your brain going into alert mode due to the temperature change and the general vibe of being alone on the Tube at 11 PM.

I've had something similar on the District Line. Entire carriage got cold suddenly. Turned out a door wasn't closing properly and we were getting draught from the tunnel. Loads of people have reported this - it's actually a known thing. Worth checking if something was mechanically off on that train.

The Northern Line does have reports going back decades. Bank Station especially has a reputation. Your experience doesn't sound inconsistent with what others have reported. Whether that's ghosts or just the psychological effect of old infrastructure + isolation, I can't say. But you're not alone in feeling something off down there.

Did you report it to TfL? Might be worth mentioning in case there's actually an HVAC issue. But yeah, the temperature thing's probably mechanical. The 'watched' feeling is much harder to explain though, and probably the more interesting part of your experience.
