Been reading about Spring-heeled Jack (Victorian London's most infamous entity/person/whatever) and I noticed something that might be interesting: the reported sightings cluster heavily around what would later become Underground railway lines.

I'm not saying the Underground was built over Spring-heeled Jack's lair or anything silly, but the geography is interesting. The Strand, Whitehall, areas around where he supposedly appeared most - these are all central to the modern Underground network.

Has anyone explored the Underground specifically looking for historical connections? Not the tourist bits but actual historical sites? I'm wondering if there's any documentation of unusual activity in the tunnels that might connect back to pre-Underground era sightings.

Spring-heeled Jack was almost certainly a person (or multiple people) causing chaos and panic in Victorian London, not a supernatural entity. The 'supernatural' reports are just Victorian panic and newspaper sensationalism. He definitely didn't build the London Underground and there's no reason to connect the two.

The geography connection is interesting from a crime pattern analysis perspective - Victorian London had clear routes and hot spots for criminal activity. Areas that made sense for criminals to operate in probably also made sense for where to build efficient railway lines. Coincidence, not conspiracy.

I've done the London Underground history tours and none of the guides mention Spring-heeled Jack connections. The history's all well documented - Victorian engineers, surveyors, etc. If there was any paranormal activity in the tunnels, you'd expect it to show up in contemporary accounts, but it doesn't really.

You can't actually just wander around the Underground doing paranormal investigations - it's heavily monitored and you'll get arrested. Heritage Foundation sometimes does tours in closed sections but those are pretty strictly controlled. Worth looking into if you're serious though.
