Right, so this happened last night around 11pm. I was letting the dog out before bed and she stopped dead at the garden fence, hackles up, completely rigid. Went to see what she was looking at and there was something in the creek - big dark shape moving through the water, barely making a ripple. Way too large for a mink or even an otter. My rough guess is it was easily 4-5 feet long, maybe more, with this sort of humped back breaking the surface.
I grabbed my mobile and tried to film it but the footage is basically useless in that light. Dog wouldn't go anywhere near the fence after that.
We're in Warwickshire, not exactly famous for mystery wildlife, but this didn't look like anything I recognise. I've seen otters before and this was in a different league size-wise.
Anyone had similar round the Midlands? I'm going back out tonight with a proper torch and camera. If anyone has tips on what to look for or what this could be I'd love to hear it.
