Spotted something huge in the creek behind my property last night - not a deer, not a bear

Mate, this is exactly the kind of report I love seeing on here. Creek sightings are massively underreported compared to woodland ones - water sources are obvious patrol routes for something large trying to stay hidden.

Few things I'd want to know:

How tall/wide did it appear when it stood or moved through the water?, Bipedal or quadruped? Even a brief impression counts, Any smell beforehand? A lot of PNW-style reports mention a strong musk near water, What time roughly, and was there any moon or ambient light?

I'm up in Dundee so I'm nowhere near you, but I've been going through creek and riverbank reports for a while now and there's a real pattern with these things favouring shallow water crossings at night. Thermal signature also behaves differently near water which is worth knowing if you've got any kit set up.

Speaking of - do you have any trail cams covering that stretch? Even a Browning Strike Force or similar pointed at the bank might catch something on a return visit. Whatever it was, large animals are creatures of habit with water sources.

Don't let anyone dismiss this one too quickly. "Not a deer, not a bear". From someone who clearly knows their local wildlife is actually a meaningful data point. Would love to hear more detail if you can recall anything else.

What were the actual dimensions you're working with here? Like when you say "huge" - are we talking longer than a car, taller than a deer at the shoulder, or both? The specifics matter a lot with water-adjacent sightings because the reflection and low light can genuinely distort perceived size upward, but it can also work the other way and make something look flatter and wider than it is. Did it make any sound in the water, any splashing pattern you noticed?
