This is going to sound barking mad, but I genuinely don't know where else to turn. For about two weeks now, I've been finding my stuff in different places. Small things at first - keys not where I left them, a mug in the bathroom instead of the kitchen. But it's getting more obvious.

Yesterday I put my mobile on the kitchen counter before bed. Woke up and it was on the living room shelf. Nobody else lives here, doors were locked. Today my laptop was on the floor. I didn't touch it.

I'm not having a breakdown, I'm not forgetful - I'm usually quite tidy and methodical. My flatmate came round last night and felt uncomfortable, said the air felt 'thick' in the hallway. Am I being haunted? Is this poltergeist activity or am I losing my mind?

Could be worth ruling out practical explanations first? Have you had any building work nearby? Sometimes vibrations from construction can make things move in strange ways. Also, are you sleeping okay? Sleep deprivation can play tricks on memory.

Brixton's got some interesting history. The area was developed on old plague pits and poorhouse grounds. Not saying that means anything, but Brixton does have quite a few reported incidents. You should check the local history archives - might give you context if something does happen there.

Before assuming supernatural, get a carbon monoxide detector. Seriously. Low-level CO poisoning causes disorientation, memory gaps, and psychological effects that feel very real. It's not glamorous but it's worth eliminating.

If it continues, document everything. Dates, times, what moved, weather, your emotional state. Pattern recognition is key with poltergeist activity. Also consider whether there's been stress or big changes in your life recently - some research suggests poltergeist phenomena cluster around emotional disruption.

Have you smudged the flat? Might sound new-agey but clearing the space sometimes helps whether it's genuine activity or just a psychological thing. Can't hurt to try.
