Date: Saturday, 23rd November, approximately 11:15 PM
Location: Between King's Cross and Angel stations
Witnesses: Myself, my mate Danny

We were on the Northern Line heading home after drinks in Islington (yeah, bit of a mess, fair point). The train was nearly empty - just us, an old bloke reading the Standard, and a woman with shopping bags. We stopped between stations, which wasn't unusual, but then this sound started. Low hum at first, then almost like... grinding? Not the normal screech of the brakes.

Danny nudged me and pointed at the window. There was this glow coming from the tunnel ahead. Not lights from another train - different colour entirely. Greenish, maybe? The lights in the carriage started flickering and my phone died instantly (battery was at 60%, fully charged iPhone 14).

The old bloke stood up real sudden-like and moved away from the window. That spooked me more than anything. When the lights came back on, the train started moving again like nothing happened. Nobody said a word. The lady got off at Angel and so did we.

No one else seems to mention this stuff about the Underground. Am I mental or has anyone else had something similar?

The Tube is notoriously weird for electronic interference. I've lost signal and had phones die loads of times. As for the glow - could've been maintenance equipment or emergency lighting in a section you're not familiar with. The greenish thing is interesting though. What exactly was it near? Any visible source?

Mate, you were eleven quid deep in Islington and it was late. Not saying it didn't happen but... reliable witness? Debatable. 😄 That said, the old bloke's reaction is actually the most interesting bit here. Wonder if he'd seen it before.

There's a whole theory about abandoned Tube sections and what's down there. King's Cross especially - loads of sealed tunnels from the Victorian era. Something about the deep-level shelters from WW2 as well. Could be anything down there honestly. Government experiments, leftover tech, who knows. You're not mental though - the Tube is genuinely weird sometimes.

My dad worked for London Underground for thirty years and he said there's definitely strange stuff that happens they don't talk about. Not aliens or whatever, but weird structural things, unexplained noises in the deep tunnels, that sort of thing. Keeps staff morale up if they don't publicise it apparently. So maybe your glow was something mundane but unusual.

Phone dying instantly at 60% is actually not that unusual with iPhones in cold environments. The electromagnetic stuff on the Tube is intense. But the greenish glow is odd. Any chance you could've misremembered the colour in the moment? Adrenaline does weird things.
