Something in my flat is responding to my voice. September incident, still happening.

This is going to sound mad, so I'm just going to lay it out straight.

Mid-September, I was alone in my two-bed in Salford. About 11 PM, I was talking to myself while making tea - you know, the usual "where did I put the biscuits" nonsense. Finished the sentence, and I heard a distinct echo from the bedroom. Not a reflection off hard surfaces. An actual repeated phrase in what sounded like my own voice, but slightly delayed and compressed, like a badly dubbed film.

I walked into the bedroom. Nothing. Empty room, windows locked. Did it again on purpose - said "hello, is anyone here?" and got back "hello... here." Same pattern. Over the course of an hour, I tested it maybe a dozen times. It works maybe 70% of the time, always with a 2-3 second delay.

What's mad is it's still doing it. It's now been two months. I've had an electrician check for dodgy wiring (nothing), had a mate come over to check I'm not going insane (he heard it too, which was both reassuring and horrifying). It only responds to my voice, not to visitors.

I'm not scared, exactly, but I'm definitely unsettled. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Could be a neighbour through the wall with similar acoustic properties? Certain flats in Salford have absolutely dire sound insulation. My old place in Didsbury had a neighbour's telly bleeding through into my bedroom at night.

This is genuinely creepy. The delayed response is the interesting bit - if it was just echoes, it would be instant or barely noticeable. The fact that it's repeating your specific words and it's selective about your voice suggests something is actually listening and processing. I'd suggest keeping a voice log. Record every time it happens, timestamp it, note what you said.

That's actually the most unsettling detail here. A lot of paranormal stuff ignores sceptical observers but this sounds almost... conversational? Have you asked it questions directly? Like, is it intelligent or just mimicking?

Mate, get a priest in. I'm half-joking but also I'm not. This sounds like something is learning to mimic you specifically. That's not normal house settlement or electrical nonsense - that's something with agency.

Has your council done any work in the building recently? Sometimes when they upgrade plumbing or electrical in flats, weird resonance happens. But yeah, the selective voice recognition is odd. Maybe try recording it and posting audio? People on the paranormal subreddits are good at identifying mundane explanations.
