This happened to me last Tuesday night, 23rd November, around 2:47am. I remember the time because I checked my mobile afterwards with shaking hands.

I woke up completely unable to move. My heart was going mental. The room was ice cold - I could see my breath, and it was definitely warm that night. There was this absolute presence in the room, like something was standing over me, and I could NOT move my body or shout for help.

It lasted maybe 30 seconds, though it felt like hours. When it ended, I shot up in bed and turned every light in the house on. Nothing there. Windows locked. Door locked.

I know what everyone's going to say - sleep paralysis. But I've done the reading and this felt different. Has anyone experienced something similar that wasn't just sleep paralysis?

I'm going to be gentle here: what you described is textbook sleep paralysis with possible hypnagogic hallucinations. The cold sensation, the presence, the inability to move - all classic symptoms. Your brain was semi-awake but your body was still in REM sleep, which paralyzes you.

It's genuinely terrifying when it happens, but it's not paranormal or alien. It's neurology. Have you slept properly since? Stress and poor sleep make it worse.

This detail is really important. Sleep paralysis always FEELS longer than it actually is. Your brain can't process time properly when it's half-asleep. That's a sign this is neurological, not paranormal.

Sleep paralysis is boring though, isn't it? I've had it happen and yeah, it's scary, but I'm more interested in the people who report actual missing time or unexplained marks on their body. That's where the alien hypothesis gets interesting.

The fact that nothing was actually there is the key detail. If something had been present - moved your furniture, left marks, taken something - then we'd have something to discuss. But absent evidence of anything actually happening, the simplest explanation is sleep paralysis.

I had sleep paralysis for years and it was genuinely one of the most distressing things I've experienced. But I got it checked by my GP and they were brilliant about it. If it happens again, proper medical advice might help more than this forum. Not saying don't post here, just... see your doctor too yeah?
