Right, I know how this sounds but I need to get it out there. I was driving back from Manchester to Leeds round about 11:45pm on Tuesday (19th Nov) when I saw this... thing. Massive, silent, just hovering maybe 200 feet up near Saddleworth Moor. Dead still, no lights, just this dark shape against the stars.

I pulled over and watched it for a solid three minutes before it just shot upwards like nothing I've ever seen. My mate was asleep in the passenger seat so I've got no witnesses, which I know makes this worth less than dog mess to most of you. But it's been doing my head in all week.

The weird thing? My car wouldn't start for about five minutes after. Not completely dead, just... sluggish. Dead battery perhaps, but the electrics were fine after. Anyone else had anything similar in the Peak District area?

Saddleworth Moor's got a bit of form for this, hasn't it? I've heard similar stories from hikers up there. The dead battery thing is interesting - there's a pattern with UFO sightings and electromagnetic interference. Not saying it proves anything, but worth noting.

Could've been a military helicopter doing night manoeuvres? There's RAF activity over the Pennines fairly regular. The hovering and shooting off could be consistent with that. Not trying to be a git about it, just offering an alternative explanation.

Mate, I had almost exactly this happen to me near Colne about three years back. Same thing - silent, dark, car playing up. Never got to the bottom of it. Would love to hear if anyone else has more recent sightings in that area.

Did you check your fuel gauge after? Sometimes adrenaline makes you forget basics. Not a dig, genuinely asking because I've done daft things when spooked.
