Saw something hovering over the tree line behind my house last night and I can't stop thinking about it

Right so this is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me up at night (in the best way). Cornwall has had a few reports like this over the years, hovering objects near treelines, usually silent or near-silent, and that detail alone rules out most conventional explanations people jump to.

Few questions - how long did it hover for roughly? And did it move off in any particular direction or just vanish? Also what time of night, because that can matter more than people realise with certain types of sightings.

I had something a bit similar about three years back near Bodmin, just this stationary light that sat completely still then was gone, no movement, no sound, nothing. Never fully explained it to my own satisfaction. Still bugs me.

Definitely worth writing everything down now while its fresh in your memory, every detail you can pull up. The small stuff always ends up being the most useful when you start comparing notes with other reports from the area.

@QuietRaven the treeline thing is really significant actually. A lot of the better documented UAP cases involve objects that seem to use the tree canopy as a kind of boundary - hovering just above or dipping behind it rather than flying through open sky. Some researchers think its deliberate concealment behaviour, others reckon the objects are interacting with something in the ground below.

What direction were you facing when you saw it? And did it hold a fixed position or drift slowly? Those two details alone can tell you a lot about whether you're looking at something truly anomalous versus a misidentified drone or balloon caught in thermals. In Somerset I've watched objects near Glastonbury that do exactly what you're describing and the silence is always what gets me - no rotor noise, nothing.
