Mate living in rural Japan I see weird stuff over the treeline more than I'd like to admit, and the ones that just hover without any sound are the ones that stick with you for days. Was it completely silent or did you get any low frequency hum? That's usually the thing people forget to mention and its actually one of the more telling details. Also how long did it hover before it moved or disappeared? The duration matters a lot more than people realise when trying to rule out the obvious stuff.
