Right so I need more details before I can say anything useful here. How long did it hover? Was it making any sound at all, even a faint hum? And what colour was the light - steady or pulsing?
I ask because I had something similar over the Peak District a few years back, just sitting there above the treeline, no noise, no navigation lights. Watched it for maybe four minutes before it just... went. Not flew away, just gone. Still bothers me.
The hovering with no sound is the bit that rules out most conventional explanations for me. Drones that size are loud. Helicopters are obviously loud. So what are we actually left with.
Post everything you can remember, even the stuff that seems irrelevant. Time, weather conditions, whether your animals were acting up beforehand. People always leave out the details that end up mattering most.
