Had something similar over the fields near Macclesfield about six years back, just this solid silent object sitting in the air where nothing should be sitting. No sound is always the thing that gets me - conventional aircraft always have some noise signature even at distance.
Few questions that might help us figure out what you saw. How long did it stay stationary before it moved or disappeared? Any colour to it or just a dark shape against the sky? And rough estimate of altitude if you can - treetop level versus higher up makes a big difference.
If it comes back worth getting your phone out and just recording even if teh footage ends up grainy, something is better than nothing. What time was this roughly?
