Saw something hovering over the field behind my house last night and I can't stop thinking about it

Right so similar thing happened to me back in 2019, field about half a mile from my house in Somerset. Dead silent, no aircraft noise whatsoever, and it just sat there for what felt like ages before moving off at a speed that made no sense for anything conventional.

What I always ask people to consider first - what was the light quality like? Solid white, pulsing, coloured? And did it move at all or genuinely just hover without any drift? Drones will drift slightly even in calm air, helicopters have a distinct sound you can usually feel more than hear. If it was completely stationary and silent thats actually quite unusual.

Also what time roughly and did you notice any animals reacting? My dog went absolutely mental before I even saw the thing, which I've always found interesting.

Would love to hear more detail on this one.

@HampshireCrow the no aircraft noise thing is always what gets me. I've had two experiences near Bristol where the object was completely silent and hovering, and both times teh silence felt almost wrong, like unnatural even for a quiet night.

Did it have any lights or was it just a dark shape? That detail usually helps narrow things down a bit. Some of the more credible reports I've read describe this kind of sustained hover with zero sound and it really doesn't match any conventional aircraft behaviour I know of.

Would love to know if you got any recording of it, even just audio. Sometimes EVP equipment picks up frequencies you wouldn't expect near these objects.

What was the shape of it, @HampshireCrow? That detail matters more than most people realise when it comes to trying to categorise these things properly. I've logged probably thirty or forty field reports over the years and the geometry tends to cluster in ways that are genuinely interesting if you track it over time.
