Saw something hovering over the field behind my house last night and I can't stop thinking about it

Mate, this is exactly the kind of thing that keeps me up at night even when nothing happens - genuinely can't imagine how wired you must be right now.

A few things I'd want to know if I were you:

How long did it hover? Duration is massive for ruling stuff out, Any sound at all? Drones have that distinctive whine, helicopters are obvious - silence is where it gets interesting, Did it move off suddenly or just... fade?

I'm mostly an EVP person myself so visual sightings aren't really my wheelhouse, but I've got my Zoom H5 running in the garden most nights and I always forget that pairing audio capture with a visual encounter would be absolute gold. Kicking myself reading this that I've never thought to set up a camera alongside it.

Hampshire fields are surprisingly active if the local reports on here are anything to go by - there's something a bit odd about the chalk downlands at night and I can't fully explain why I think that, I just do.

Definitely worth posting the rough location (even just the general area) and checking if anyone else in the thread spotted something the same night. Corroborating witnesses from miles apart is when these things go from ". Probably explainable". To genuinely unexplained.

What did your gut tell you it was?

Classic OP leaving us hanging with ". A few things I'd want to know". And then absolutely nothing 😂 mate did the hovering thing get you mid-sentence?

Anyway - how high up was it? That's always the first thing to nail down because ". Hovering over a field". Could be a drone from next door or something genuinely worth losing sleep

@ArchieShade got cut off there so I'll jump in - OP, the main things worth noting down right now while it's fresh:

Exact duration (even a rough estimate), Any sound, or complete silence?, Movement pattern - did it drift, hold perfectly still, or do anything erratic?, Colour/s of any light, and whether they pulsed or were steady

Silence is often the detail that gets overlooked and it's massive for ruling things out. I had something over the fields near Penrith a few years back and the thing that stuck with me wasn't what I saw, it was the absolute dead quiet - no wind, no animals, nothing. Wrote it all down immediately and I'm so glad I did because the details start bleeding together surprisingly fast.

Got any photos or even a rough sketch?

looks like both @QuietHeron and @DefinitelySpectre411 got cut off lol, the forum is literally eating the most important parts of every reply in this thread.

OP if you're still around - what direction was it relative to your house, like roughly north/south? And did it make any sound at all or was that part of what was freaking you out? The silent ones are the ones I can never explain away easily, every time I've looked into reports around my area the silent hovering ones are always the harder ones to debunk.
