Mate you need to give us more details because "hovering over a field" could be anything from a legitimate UAP to someone messing about with a drone at 11pm. How high up was it roughly, did it make any sound, and did it move at all or just sit there? The no-sound-but-moving ones are the ones that genuinely get my attention, had something similar over the South Downs a couple years back and the absolute silence of it was the part that stuck with me. Also Hampshire here so if this is local I'm very interested. What direction was the field facing and what time did you clock it? Could be worth doing a follow-up spirit box session in the field if you're up for it, sounds mad but you'd be surprised what turns up.
Saw something hovering over the field behind my house last night and I can't explain it
@KenjiRelic is right, we need the specifics before anyone can start guessing. What colour were the lights, how long did it hold position, and did it move off suddenly or just sort of drift away? That last bit tells you a lot. Drones in my experience have a very particular wobble when they're fighting a breeze, and they don't just vanish. Also what time exactly and was there any sound at all, even a faint hum. I drove through some strange country over the years and you get a feel for what doesn't fit the landscape. Something genuinely stationary with no noise is a different category of thing entirely compared to your standard bit of kit from Argos.
