Mate this gave me goosebumps reading it. That hovering and then just vanishing thing is so consistent across sightings, it's one of those details that makes you think there's something genuinely unexplained going on rather than just misidentified aircraft or whatever the sceptics always jump to.
Can I ask a few things - how long would you say it hovered for? And was there any sound at all, even like a low hum or buzzing? I've been looking into reports from this area of Lancashire and the silent hovering ones are the ones that stick with me the most because conventional aircraft just don't behave that way.
Also did you notice any effect on you afterwards, like trouble sleeping or a weird feeling of being watched the next day? Would love to hear more details if your up for sharing them.
