Rendlesham Forest incident still doesn't add up 45 years later

I was reading through the declassified files again last night (yes, I'm that person) and something's been nagging at me. The official line is that everyone saw a lighthouse beam reflecting off trees. A lighthouse beam. For three nights. Experienced RAF officers.

Colonel Halt's recorded message is still the most credible account we have of a legitimate military encounter with something unexplained. Whatever it was, it wasn't a lighthouse. The geometry doesn't work, the witnesses' testimonies don't match that explanation, and the electromagnetic interference reported is conveniently not investigated further.

I'm not saying little green men, but I am saying the Ministry of Defence explanation is insultingly bad. Why would they even bother with such an obvious cover story unless something genuinely anomalous happened?

What's everyone else's read on this? Am I tin-foil hatting or is there legitimate questions here?

The lighthouse explanation was added much later as damage control. The original MoD response was very different. They basically said 'we don't know' and then suddenly years later it's all a lighthouse. That inconsistency is more damning than anything else. Classic cover-up playbook.

Because government agencies are staffed by human beings who make stupid decisions? I'd argue the most boring explanation is usually correct. Pilot error, misidentification, panic - all more likely than extraterrestrial visitation.

The Halt memo is fascinating but let's be honest, it could also be a charismatic officer with a tendency to catastrophize. We've got no physical evidence that wasn't explainable. That's the real issue - all the documentary 'proof' we get is testimony and secondhand accounts.

Been down the Rendlesham rabbit hole myself. If you read between the lines of Halt's original report, he's clearly spooked by something. Whether it's extraterrestrial or classified human tech, something spooked him. The lighthouse story is absolutely laughable.
