Every few years someone rediscovers the Rendlesham Forest incident and there's a renewal of discussion about whether it's the most credible UFO case on record. For those unfamiliar: December 1980, RAF Bentwaters in Suffolk, military personnel witnessed unusual aerial phenomena over three nights. Documented at the time, reported through official channels, fairly well-corroborated by multiple witnesses.
The declassified documents are reasonably detailed (for a military document) and the witnesses were credible - trained observers, not civilians prone to flights of fancy. Compare that to most UFO cases where you've got shaky video, anonymous reports, or anecdotal evidence, and Rendlesham stands out.
But here's what bugs me: if this was genuine contact or sightings of non-human technology, why isn't it treated as such? Why is it relegated to conspiracy forums and paranormal communities? Why did the official investigation conclude basically nothing? Either the evidence isn't as strong as believers claim, or there's legitimate suppression happening.
Thoughts? Has anyone actually read the declassified files and have opinions on their credibility?
