Recurring dreams about the Scottish Highlands - Connection to family history?

This might sound daft but I've been having the same dream about three times a week for the last six months and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with this sort of thing. The dream's always the same - I'm walking across moorland (looks like the Scottish Highlands, though I've never been there) and there's this light on the horizon that I'm being drawn towards. As I get closer, I feel this overwhelming sense of dread but also curiosity, like I need to reach it.

Then I wake up before I actually reach the light. Always around 3am. My partner says I'm mumbling in my sleep during these dreams but can't make out words. My mum mentioned in passing that my grandmother had reported strange lights in the Highlands back in the 1960s, though she never elaborated and died before I could ask her about it.

I'm wondering whether there's any validity to inherited memory or sensitivity to these things? Is it possible I'm somehow tapping into a family pattern of experiences? Or am I overthinking recurring dreams?

There's some interesting research on what's called 'ancestral memory' or intergenerational trauma responses, though it's still pretty fringe science. That said, recurring dreams at consistent times (3am especially) can sometimes indicate genuine paranormal contact rather than just psychological factors. Worth keeping a detailed dream journal.

Dreams are notoriously difficult to work with because they're so subjective and easily influenced by expectation. That said, the 3am timing is interesting - there's a lot of reported paranormal activity clustered around that time. Could be coincidence or could be something about your own sensitivity peaking then.

Have you tried finding more information about what your grandmother experienced? There might be something documented - old newspaper reports, UFO databases from that era. Could help you understand whether you're dreaming about something she actually witnessed.

The fact that you're being drawn towards something whilst feeling dread is interesting - suggests perhaps a past life recall or genuine contact attempt. The light is usually symbolic of entities trying to communicate. Have you considered trying to consciously engage with the dream rather than letting it resolve naturally?

Honestly mate, before jumping to paranormal explanations, have you looked at whether there's something in your environment triggering this? What are you eating before bed? Phone use before sleep? Stress levels? Dreams respond to all of that. Worth eliminating the mundane factors first.
