Right, I'm posting this because I genuinely don't know what else to do. I was hiking near Kinder Scout on Saturday (15th Nov, around 4:30pm) with my wife and our springer spaniel. Weather was absolutely foul - thick mist, couldn't see more than 20 metres ahead.

We were heading back to the car when our dog absolutely lost it. Barking, hackles up, the lot. Then through the mist, about 100 yards away, we saw this shape. Massive. Bipedal. Covered in dark hair. It moved with this odd, loping gait and vanished into the fog in about three seconds flat.

My wife thinks it was a bear (which, fair point, we don't have bears roaming Peak District). I'm trying to remain rational but... I've never seen anything move like that. Has anyone had experiences in the Peak District or surrounding areas? I'm not claiming it's Bigfoot - I'm just saying it was weird.

Mate, you've probably just seen a deer or a large dog. Mist does funny things to perception, and your brain fills in the gaps. Happens all the time. That said, there's some interesting historical reports from Yorkshire moors if you want to dig into the archives here.

Peak District? The Lake District has more credible sightings tbh. Did you manage any photos? Even blurry ones help. Also, what size would you say - feet tall roughly?

This is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. You've just described a very large, very hairy man jogging in the mist. Which, let's be honest, you'd see on any British moorland on a Saturday morning. 😄

Your wife is more rational than you, no offence. But seriously, if you can pinpoint the exact location, we could organise a small search expedition. I'm in Sheffield and would be keen.

The bipedal gait is what gets me. That's the detail that stands out. Most misidentifications are of bears, moose, or primates (escaped from zoos). But the movement pattern you're describing - that's consistent with reports from North America. Interesting.
